Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO), headquartered at Tainan Science-based Industrial Park, Taiwan, is the world's leading TFT-LCD company. Its key products are large-size TFT-LCD panel for notebook, desktop monitor, and TV applications.

The Company currently has 15000 employees and had listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) from 2002. CMO has many of Taiwan's exceptional early-period R&D engineers and deems technological independence is the key to success and allows the company to excel in technical innovation. The company is also putting efforts into speeding up the integration of new technology in its prodicts,in the hopes that innovation-driven forces can yield even greater result.

CMO is one of the world's top three suppliers of LCD panels for televisions, and has the goal of promoting the universal use of LCD televisions around the world. It has already successfully begun to produce product lines under 50 inches. In the future, the company will continue to meet the needs of consumers in this age of high-definition digital television (HDTV) by providing products with industry-leading high resolution, high contrast, super wide view and fast response.

CMO has an advantage in capacity planning, with four plants-including 3.5th generation,4th generation,5th generation and 5.5th generation fabs. The company is also actively planning next generation fabs, which would quickly decrease manufacturing costs and further work toward making LCD televisions universal as we approach an era of digital television and HDTV. CMO’s in-house color filter production design has also enhanced its advantages in product quality and development.

CMO is actively seeking to assemble a group of optical-electronics companies at Tainan Science-based Industrial Park in hopes of creating a village that produces materials including glass, backlight module, polarizer, CCFL, driver IC, and other important components; the promotion of the local sourcing of parts and equipment will greatly improve the overall supply chain efficiency.

Furthermore, Chi Mei’s affiliates is working on the establishment of a 250-hectare “LCD TV and Supporting Industries Industrial Zone” adjacent to the Tainan Science-based Industrial Park. The new zone and the existing optoelectronics companies within the Park will complement one another, helping to enhance the competitiveness of the TFT-LCD industry as a whole.

Given the key role that CMO plays in the global TFT-LCD supply chain, it has a heavy responsibility in this respect. The company’s mission is to meet consumer's needs for large size and high quality displays in the digital era and enhance Taiwan’s leading role in the global FPD industry.
